Mommy Monday: Kids and Caffeine

Posted:
Mommy Monday breaks down a new study that looks at how much caffeine your kids take in.

The journal Pediatrics reports caffeine intake by kids and teenagers has really gone up over the past few years,
mostly from soda or energy drinks.

Now researchers are worried about the impact that could have on your child as he or she moves into puberty.

Researchers found before puberty, caffeine affected both boys and girls the same, but it's after puberty where the differences really showed up.

Research suggests girls experience more heart rate and blood pressure changes than boys do and girls also experience some differences during their menstrual cycles.

Dr. Besser says 73 percent of kids have caffeine every day and he believes parents should really limit how much their kids have on a daily basis.
