Virginia's First Lady Stops In Pittsylvania County, Promotes Healthy Eating

Pittsylvania Co., VA - Virginia's First Lady, Dorothy McAuliffe, spent part of her day on the Southside on Wednesday.  McAuliffe toured White Flint Farm in Pittsylvania County with children involved in a summer-feeding program. The tour was part of Get Fit Dan River Region's goal to promote a healthy lifestyle. Talks centered on growing vegetables on a chemical-free farm.

McAuliffe said she is working to improve food delivery systems so that nutritious and fresh products are more accessible to children and families.

"The fact is that if kids understand where their food comes from. It kind of fun to know what come out of the ground and how it grows, then they're more likely to try that fruit or vegetable on their plate and the added benefit is that it's often more nutritious," said  Dorothy McAuliffe.

On Wednesday evening, McAuliffe was the guest of honor at an Eat to Live picnic hosted by Get Fit and Cherrystone Missionary Baptist Association in Ringgold.
