Lynchburg, VA - More than a million people in the U.S. are living with HIV virus, but one in six don't know they have it.

In Virginia, some 6600 women have the disease.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone between the ages of 13 to 64 get tested.

Now you can get tested for free.

Lucille Jones is a nurse at Horizon Behavioral Health in Lynchburg. Horizon just got a grant to help people get tested.

To date, Horizon has provided 147 tests and identified 1 positive. The goal is 300 tests by September 30, 2014.

Horizon wants to reduce the stigma in the community through education, provide free testing and Link persons with HIV into care.

June 27 is National HIV testing Day.

Horizon is working with the Coalition for HIV Awareness and Prevention to provide free testing at Walgreens on Wards Road on Thursday, June 26, 27 from 3 p.m. - 7p.m and Saturday, 28, 10am-2pm.

Virginia Department of Health and Walgreens have partnered together to offer the tests for free at select Walgreens across Virginia through 2016.

You don't have to make an appointment.

A Walgreens pharmacist will give you the test in a private room and the results are back in less than a minute.

If needed, the pharmacists are trained to offer assistance and support.
