Man Accused Of Scalding Child Has Bond Revoked

Rocky Mount, VA - A Rocky Mount man, accused of scalding an infant boy in his care, had his bond revoked after his trial was continued.

Shaquille Hancock, 20, had been free on bail following the March 13th incident where the boy was allegedly held in bath water that was so hot investigators say it would have scalded the boy in seconds.

Hancock faces two felony charges related to the case.

Monday in Franklin County Circuit Court Hancock decided against a bench trial and had concerns that not all of his witnesses were present for his trial that was scheduled to begin.

Judge William Alexander immediately revoked Hancock's bond until the rescheduled trial.

As the judge was was working with the Commonwealth and a defense attorney to set that date, a man who identified himself as Hancock's brother, implored to the judge that his brother did not understand what a jury trial entailed.

That prompted Alexander to bring Hancock back into court for clarification.

Following a short consultation with his attorney Hancock waived his right to a trial by jury.

Hancock's new trial date is set for August 19th.
