STAUNTON, Va. (AP) - A Lyndhurst man accused of killing two relatives in 2000 is being released from a state mental hospital to a group home.
Mark T. Zawhorodny has been under state psychiatric care since he was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2001.
Media outlets report that an Augusta County Circuit Court judge granted the 49-year-old Zawhorodny conditional release on Wednesday.
Zawhorodny will be released from Western State Hospital to Gateway Homes in Chesterfield.
He was charged with fatally shooting his brother, 38-year-old Michael A. Zawhorodny, and his 14-year-old nephew, Joshua Zawhorodny on Dec. 26, 2000, following an argument over family dogs. A psychologist from Western State had testified that he suffered from schizophrenia and paranoia.
