Lynchburg - Carolina scored four runs in the fifth to grab the lead, then tacked on four more in the seventh on an Alex Monsalve grand slam en route to beating Lynchburg 11-6 in Carolina League action Thursday night at Calvin Falwell Field.
Lynchburg banged out 17 hits for the game and broke a 1-all tie by scoring three runs in the fourth to grab a 4-1 lead. Kevin Ahrens, Jose Martinez and Eric Garcia all had three hits on the night for the Hillcats, Martinez hit a solo homer in the first to give Lynchburg a 1-0 lead and added two doubles, finishing the game 3-for-5. He's hitting .378 in his first 19 games with the Hillcats.
With the victory, Carolina takes the final three games of the four-game series. Lynchburg now hits the road to Myrtle Beach for a four-game series starting Friday night.
