UPDATE: Details Released in State Trooper Involved Crash on 460 WB

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - State Police say a trooper was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries following a crash on Route 460 Monday morning.

State Police say at about 10 a.m. Monday, the trooper saw a Mercedes Benz traveling along Route 29 in Amherst County going more than 100 miles per hour.

The trooper turned around in order to make a stop on the speeding car and followed to westbound Route 460.  State Police say the trooper was using his lights and sirens as he tried to catch up with the speeding car.

While heading west on Route 460 in the left lane, State Police say a driver in a Pontiac Grand Am changed from the right lane to the left lane.  When that driver saw the state trooper's vehicle coming up behind her, she swerved back into the right lane and the trooper swerved to the left in order to avoid hitting her car.  The trooper's car then spun out and hit the Grand Am as well as a Hyundai Sonata and then hit the guardrail.

According to authorities, neither of the drivers of the cars that were struck by the trooper's vehicle was injured and both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The trooper was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries.  He, too, was wearing a seat belt.

The Mercedes Benz was never located and no charges have been filed.
