CASA Inducts 16 New Lynchburg Volunteers

Posted:
Lynchburg, VA - They've put in hours and hours of work for the last six weeks and Wednesday night at a place they'll be spending plenty of time, 16 new CASA volunteers were sworn in.

CASA of Central Virginia works with abused and neglected children.  The organization has a full time staff of only five, so they rely heavily on their volunteers who do the majority of their court and case work.

But the volunteers have been trained heavily and Wednesday night they took an oath to uphold the organization's mission and to represent each child to the best of their ability.

"We came to foster care reviews and other depositions and things like that and just being there and observing that and seeing that and knowing that you're going to be a part of that and just seeing the kids being helped and knowing that one day you could be one of those helping a child, it's pretty powerful” said volunteer, Tami Jacob.

In 2013 CASA helped more than 500 children, many of whom had court appointed CASA volunteers.
