Community Steps Up To Help Find Homes For Virginian Residents

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA- The community is jumping in to help residents of the Virginian Apartments in Lynchburg as their time is almost up to find a new home. Tenants of the affordable income property are searching to find housing in a market with what they call limited availability.

Lynchburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority says they've been conducting housing partners meetings with community stake-holders to figure out what to do for the residents at the Virginian. They say it wasn't until our stories aired right here on ABC-13 that local organizations have come forward to say they are willing to accept these residents.

In a meeting last week the Housing Authority says organizations from different areas including Madison Heights, AltaVista, and Danville all stepped up to say they want to help. The Housing Authority's Executive Director Dawn Fagan says they are grateful for the news coverage and believes it has played a large part in helping the Virginian Residents find homes.

Fagan says The Virginian will officially close on August 31st,so the residents still have about a month to find a place to live. She says the owner of the building has been very helpful and is not kicking anyone out until they find a new home.
