Family of Alexis Murphy Remain "Nelson Strong" One Year After Disappearance

Posted:
Nelson County, VA - August 3rd marks one year since the disappearance of Alexis Murphy.

While Randy Taylor has been convicted of her murder, to date, there's still no sign of Alexis. It's one reason why the community continues to rally around the entire Murphy family, in the hopes that Alexis will turn up.

Hundreds of basketball players took part in the Alexis Murphy basketball tournament at Nelson County High School this weekend, with the proceeds going to a scholarship fund in her name. Many of the teams chose to wear Alexis's #9, the same number she wore as a volleyball player. The two day tournament culminated with a candlelight vigil, as the family and supporters continue to hold hope for the safe return of Alexis.

Her Aunt, Angela Taylor, says their minds still shift back to where they were a year ago. Taylor says "Everyone's still, you know, thinking back of this time last year, and the phone calls, and the searches, and just not having her here."

While the courts have finished their work, for now, Taylor says law enforcement officials have been there for the family since day one, and continue to do everything possible, saying "They have told us since day one, even since the trial has been over, that they will not give up searching for her. She was everybody's child, and it literally could have happened to anybody."

Despite One year passing, the Murphy family is confident that sooner or later, they will be reunited with Alexis. One of the many T-shirts worn by supporters bore a message created by the Murphy family: "Our Family, A Circle of Strength and love, Founded On Faith, joined by love, kept by God, Together Forever." Ramona Vest says the shirts have a special meaning to the family, saying "We'll always be together, regardless of where she is, she'll know that we're going to stick together, to find her and bring closure to our family."
