"Day Of Peace" In Roanoke

Posted:
Roanoke, VA - A local DJ, tired of all the news about violence these days, decided to try to do something about it by promoting peace.

Joe Johnson, of WROV, put the word out about a peace rally just Wednesday - in order to balance Thursday's supposed, "Day of Rage" in response to the police shooting of an unarmed teenager in Missouri.

"Instead of focusing on the negativity to bring the focus back on positive and what we can do for good. Whether it's nationwide, globally or right here in our own community," said Johnson.

About a dozen braved the rain over the lunch hour to gather in downtown Roanoke to help get the word out.

"I don't believe anybody needs to be violent. Peace is where it's at and it should be really something everybody strives for," said Charles Nichols who used his lunch hour to join in.

Several dozens of cities across the country did observe a "Day of Rage" Thursday.

One of the largest protests, in San Diego, drew about 100 people.
