WOODBRIDGE, Va. –  For the second straight season, Potomac knocked the Hillcats out of the playoffs.

The Nationals built a 3-0 lead through five innings, then held on the final innings to edge Lynchburg 4-3 to win the Carolina League's Northern Division Championship.

Jose Martinez hit a solo home run to jump start Lynchburg's offense in the sixth inning, and the Hillcats scored two more in the seventh to pull within one.  But Kevin Ahrens was thrown out at the plate trying to score the tying run in the 8th for the Hillcats.

With the victory, Potomac advances to the Carolina League's Mills Cup Championship Series.  The Nationals will face the Southern Division champion, either Myrtle Beach or Salem.  Myrtle Beach tied the best-of-3 series with a 4-1 win Thursday night, they'll play the deciding game Friday night in Myrtle Beach.
